MEAN FIDDLER & JUICY PRESENT: BIG DADDY KANE & BIZ MARKIE
We are very (very) proud to present a double headliner show in association with Mean Fiddler, bringing two absolute legends of hip hop to Manchester. On Thursday 21 June, Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie will be hitting the stage for what will be one of the most talked about hip hop gigs in Manchester for a long time.
If you’re a fan of old school hip hop then neither of them needs an introduction. For you young ones, Big Daddy Kane is probably your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper. Named by many as one of the most influential rappers of all time, he paved the way for the likes of Nas, Biggie and Jay-Z (who was even his hype man for a while). His classics such as Ain’t No Half Steppin, Set It Off, Wrath Of Kane, Raw and countless others remain some of the best tracks from rap’s golden age.
Biz Markie is one of the most loved character’s in hip hop’s history; a multi-talented joker equally at home rapping, beatboxing or DJing. One of the original signings to the legendary Cold Chillin label alongside Kane and the rest of Marley Marl’s Juice Crew, his early singles such as Nobody Beats The Biz and Make The Music With Your Mouth Biz were instant club classics. Perhaps best known for his lovelorn anthem Just A Friend, he has collaborated several times with the Beastie Boys.
Tickets are available from HMV tickets, Ticketmaster or Seetickets, priced just £18.50. We’ll also be DJing at the show, dropping an old school set.

IN THE LOOP PRESENTS DJ WOODY AND MAD FLOWS 12 MAY

In The Loop are bringing DJ Woody to their basement shindig, alongside a live set from the aptly named Mad Flows. If you’ve never been In The Loop before definitely go check it out, they play the best in underground and golden age hip hop, but don’t expect people just standing around nodding, they get shit popping. Soup Kitchen is one of my favourite venues in the northern quarter too, nice dark and dingy vibe but with a decent soundsystem.
DJ Woody is one of the dons of the UK scene, as you will know if you caught him at the DMC Championships we threw a couple years back. His technique is pretty mind boggling, I just hope he has insured his fingers. Dapper French superhero Bedos takes control of mic duties like usual, with (regular Juicy guests) DJ A-UP and Agent J on the wheels of steel. Click the flyer for the facebook event with all details.
HOMEGROWN PRODUCE
A trio of great British tracks that have come out recently to help you forget about the bland shit on
the radio. First up is Million Dan on a beat by local producer Pete Cannon, straight fire. A+ for
the track, D- for the spelling.
Million Dan – Az I Kum Bak
Next up another UK stalwart, Skitz, back with two of the greatest MCs to ever touch mic on these green shores.
Skitz feat. Rodney P, Roots Manuva and Solo Banton – Never
And finally a nice track from local boys The Mouse Outfit, very high levels.
The Mouse Outfit feat. Dubbel O and Sparks – Never Get Enough
JUICY PRESENTS POWER – A KANYE WEST SPECIAL
On May 11th we are celebrating one of the most iconic hip hop acts of our generation, the man they call Yeezy. Whether you love him or hate him, it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer variety and number of classic records he’s put out over the past 10 years or so. From his early days producing for the likes of Common, Jay-Z and Talib Kweli, to The College Dropout and his recent Watch The Throne album with Jigga, he’s equally at home chopping up old soul samples, dropping more quotable lines in a verse than other rappers do on a whole album, or tearing it up on drum machines and synths. It’s just a shame he designs crap trainers and acts like a dick at award shows…
We’ll be playing an hour of his hits at midnight at Juicy, needless to say this event will sell out even quicker than usual so don’t sleep. £3 tickets from Skiddle online here, physical ones will be in Gaffs and Piccadilly Records soon.
Common – Testify (produced by Kanye West)
Kanye West – The New Workout Plan
Kanye West – Hell Of A Life

We’re very proud to be bringing Fatlip from the legendary California crew The Pharcyde to Juicy. He’ll be DJing and getting on the mic during his set, spinning party hip hop as well as dropping classics from his 20 year career. Tickets are a ludicrously cheap £3 from Skiddle here, I don’t need to tell you that this will sell out so if you want to come, get one as soon as you can. Click the flyer above for the facebook event with more details.

The Pharcyde – Passin Me By
JUICY PRESENTS GETT OFF – A PRINCE SPECIAL APRIL 13
This Friday we’re celebrating one of our all time favourite artists; the Purple Yoda from Minnesota – Prince. Put on your best lace gloves, leather chaps and frilly shirts and prepare for a night of Housequakes and Sexy MFs.
From midnight we’ll be dropping a solid hour of his many, many hits, alongside a few jams by his peers, allies, collaborators and enemies (think George Clinton, Rick James, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Vanity 6 etc). More details on the facebook event here, and you can cop £3 tickets from Piccadilly Records, Gaffs or Skiddle here.
